Author Biography

T. S. Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1888. At eighteen he entered Harvard and following graduation went abroad, and later taught in a boys' school briefly before spending eight years in Lloyds Bank in London. In 1925 he entered book publishing, and at the time of his death, on January 4, 1965, he was a director of the English firm Faber and Faber. In 1948, King George VI bestowed the Order of Merit on him, and that same year he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature
