Summary
The government of Egypt banned Inside Egyptin 2008--the first time a book on Egyptian politics had been banned in the country in decades--and quickly rescinded it after the media firestorm that followed. The book depicts a country on the brink of collapse. Through interviews with ordinary Egyptians and extensive travels in the country, Bradley reveals why Egypt is now vulnerable to another popular uprising that could bring about an Iranian-style theocracy in a country once noted for its plurality and tolerance.

John R. Bradley has written for The Economist, The Washington Quarterly, The Financial Times, The New Republic, The Times Literary Supplement, Newsweek, and Salon. Fluent in Egyptian Arabic, he is the author of the critically acclaimed Saudi Arabia Exposed: Inside a Kingdom in Crisis. He lives in Singapore.
