Summary

This workbook helps parents create a positive and supportive environment for their children—one where clear expectations are established, upheld, and reinforced with positivity. Each chapter provides practical tools for parents, along with clear explanations of why these tools work and how to use them effectively. Parents are encouraged to adapt and expand on the suggested strategies to suit their unique family dynamics. Additional reading recommendations are included, offering a variety of perspectives to complement the advice in the workbook. The authors emphasize that the approaches presented are not the only way to parent but rather a foundation of guiding principles to help families start or enhance their parenting journey.

The Childrening Section is designed to both engage and entertain children while teaching essential life skills. Aimed at ages 5 to 16, this section includes fun, interactive worksheets, stories with meaningful lessons, and practical guides to help children manage emotions, express creativity, and build positive relationships with parents and peers. Parents are encouraged to monitor and support their children as they explore the concepts, ensuring a collaborative and enriching experience. The stories are crafted to be enjoyable while instilling valuable morals and lessons that children can carry into adulthood.

Author Biography

Dr. Stephen P. Amos, PhD is a licensed psychologist who has served as the Director of Behavioral Sciences for both the Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas School of Medicine—Wichita. In these roles, he was responsible for the development of "The Parenting Manual," coordinating parenting workshops, and providing multiple presentations on Positive Parenting for Residency Programs. During this tenure, the idea of "childrening" occurred to him. The rationale was simply, "If parents should learn a set of skills to get along well with their children, shouldn't children too?" This workbook is the fruition of bringing both ideas full circle. He and his wife Paula currently live in Wichita, Kansas. They have two children, four grandchildren, a great-granddaughter, and three dogs. Dr. Amos is also an award-winning songwriter with albums available on iTunes.
Dr. Ruth N. Faucette, PhD, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who has served as Director of Behavioral Science at the Ascension Via Christi Family Medicine Residency and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine Department of Family and Community Medicine—Wichita. She is a leading voice in behavioral health integration, known for equipping and empowering practitioners. Dr. Faucette has launched integrated behavioral health programs within primary and pediatric care settings, implemented trauma-informed care and screening for ACES, and developed and evaluated physician well-being programs. She now resides in Scottsdale, AZ, where she continues her work as a passionate, collaborative, and innovative clinician dedicated to driving positive mental health outcomes for her clients in private practice. To add variety to her life, she enjoys traveling the world, playing pickleball, engaging in CrossFit, and spending time with loved ones.
