Summary

Many employees spend a lot of time these days trying to figure out why they often don't seem to 'fit' anymore into their workplaces, why they're no longer 'visible' to their workplaces, and why they don't understand the current state of workplace affairs. Dr. De Angelis suggests that they're not likely to get clear answers anytime soon. The majority of workplace leaders appear to be fairly ignorant about their employees' talents, wishes, dreams, career goals or most any other professional aspiration they might have. This may have to do with the fact that many workplaces have become too large and have succumbed to management philosophies that encourage the expansion of bureaucracy and the rise of administrators, who are only interested in promoting administration, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. What do employees do when strategies for increasing productivity, efficiency and for reducing costs become the overriding goals of a workplace? When mergers, reorganizations and relocations become the order of business? What happens when employees who want to do the jobs they were hired to do, are prevented from doing those jobs because an ever-looming and ever-expanding bureaucracy has tightened the chokehold on them by forcing them to become administrators and paper pushers? What happens to a workplace that promotes bureaucracy first? This book offers some personal reflections about what is going on in modern-day workplaces in an attempt to answer these questions.
